Spain’s Paco Borao has been re-elected as the President of AIMS - the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races.

Borao, the President of Correcaminos de Valencia, which organises the Marathon and Half Marathon in Valencia, was confirmed once more in this AIMS position at their 20th World Congress which took place in Durban between last Friday and Sunday.

First selected for the post in October 2010, Borao spoke during the weekend of running’s constant global growth.

Their website, aimsworldrunning.org, reports that 10 million people are running marathons and long distance races.

During the congress, President Borao said: 'We are seeing a great growth in the running movement.

'Running, the world’s original and most affordable sport, is a perfect solution to addressing many of the world’s health issues such as obesity. As many medical professionals around the world like to say 'Exercise is the perfect pill'.'

When Borao first became President, he succeeded Japan’s Hiroaki Chosa who had been in the post for 20 years.
