European Athletics has awarded the 2018 SPAR European Cross Country Championships to the Dutch city of Tilburg, following decision from the Council on Friday 4 November.

The 147th European Athletics Council meeting is for the first time being held in the new House of European Athletics in Lausanne this weekend.

President Hansen spoke on behalf of the Council after the announcement: “We congratulate the Dutch delegation for the excellent quality of their bid and are very confident that the strong tradition for cross country in Tilburg will help to host a memorable European Championships in 2018.”

The International Warandecross, a European Athletics Cross Country Permit Meeting, is organised annually in Tilburg and is set to take place in a few weeks time on 28 November.

The Dutch Athletics Federation demonstrated their passion and desire to host this wonderful event following the successfully staging of last summer’s European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam.
