The European Athletics Event & Competition Commission, with European Athletics Council Executive Board Member Toralf Nilsson as the chair, held its biannual meeting from Friday 29 September to Sunday 1 October at the European Athletics Head Office in Lausanne.

The diverse areas and topics covered included discussion about the presentation and format of DNA (Dynamic New Athletics), which will make its debut at the 2019 European Games in Minsk.

There was also considerable debate concerning two new competitions which could be potentially be introduced onto the European Athletics calendar: a European Athletics Relay Festival and a European Trail Running Championships.

Proposed format changes for the European Athletics Team Championships from 2021 were also explored and analysed while the competition format for the Glasgow 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships was examined in detail.

After the introduction of the women’s 50km race walk into the IAAF World Championships London 2017 at relatively short notice, how to integrate this event into future European Athletics events was looked at.

The Commission – one of six European Athletics Commissions – will next meet in Lausanne from 13-15 April 2018.

The members of all the European Athletics Commissions can be seen here.
