First Vice President Dobromir Karamarinov greeted President Svein Arne Hansen and the European Athletics Event & Competition Commission to his home country in Pravets, Bulgaria.
President Hansen welcomed the Commission members and emphasised the importance of their work.
The President highlighted that the President’s Manifesto “Leading Change” shall be the basis for future projects and activities of European Athletics.

The meeting began with an introduction by Commission Chair and Council member Toralf Nilsson, as he reported on the main Council and Executive Board decisions since the last meeting.
Nilsson then gave a status report on the Project to come up with a Ranking and Qualification System which is to be outlined and clarified to all Member Federations during this weekend’s European Athletics Convention in Funchal.
Council member José Luis De Carlos then informed the Commission about the progress of the Record Review Project Team, with a final report to be proposed to the EXBO. He was followed by Council member Jorge Salcedo who outlined the frame of the TOECS Level II Course and TD Seminar in autumn 2017. The final concept will be presented to the Council for the spring meeting 2017.
Commission members agreed to recommend practical steps to further develop the under-23 age as a subset of the senior age group. They also presented a proposal to reform the format of combined events with a new scoring system and number of events.
Another recommendation is to synchronise the long distances for men and women at European Athletics U20 Championships starting from 2019 and to change the age category for EYOF to U18 from 2019.
The next Event & Competition Commission meeting will take place from 31 March to 2 April 2017 (venue tbd).
