Konrad Bukowiecki set a world junior indoor shot put record of 22.38m on home soil in Torun on Saturday.
The prolific Polish thrower has been nominated for European Athlete of the Month on several occasions this year and was crowned world junior champion in July.
Still only 17, he will be the overwhelming favourite at the European Athletics Junior Championships held in Eskilstuna, Sweden, from 16-19 July.
The previous world junior indoor record was 22.35m by Germany's David Storl in Rochlitz, Germany, on 20 December 2009. Storl, the 2014 European champion might have found in Bukowiecki his adversary of the future.
