The three candidates for the European Athletics Presidency today presented their vision at a groundbreaking “Meet Your Future President” session in Prague.
The official candidates, Jean Gracia (FRA), Svein Arne Hansen (NOR), and Antti Pihlakoski (FIN), addressed European Athletics Member Federations, Council members, Honorary Council members, Commission members and IAAF Council members.
The candidates were given 12 minutes each to present their strategy for the future of European Athletics before a lively question and answer session of 2 hours.
Incumbent President Hansjörg Wirz will hand over to the new President at the European Athletics Congress in Bled, Slovenia, on Saturday 11 April after 16 years of leading the organisation.
Alongside President Wirz, among those who attended today’s meeting were IAAF President Lamine Diack, IAAF Vice-Presidents Sebastian Coe and Sergey Bubka.
The presentation was the first time such a meeting of candidates has been organised at world or European level.
