‘Global Running Day’ takes place for the second time on Wednesday 7 June and the event will once again unite the worldwide running community.

Initiated by New York Road Runners (NYRR), Global Running Day is a grassroots project for people of all abilities and backgrounds to come together and celebrate their passion for running and inspire others to get moving.

European Athletics recognises the values of such an initiative and is proud to be a Global Supporter of Global Running Day along with Running for All and the European Running Business Conference which takes place in Frankfurt on 27-28 October.

“We are very happy to join forces with New York Road Runners to support Global Running Day again. This initiative fits in with European Athletics’ Running Strategy alongside European Week of Sport, our upcoming European Running Business Conference and our flagship initiative Running for All,” said European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen.

“Our European Athletics motto is Your Sport for Life and we want to see everyone getting out there and being active on 7 June!”

The centrepiece of Global Running Day is the Million Kid Run which is about making fitness fun and inspiring children to embrace running as a means to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Just like last year, the aim is to have a million kids around the world pledging to run on 7 June - be it an organised run, a lap around the track or a game of tag.

To engage socially with Global Running Day, runners can take part in the conversation by using the hashtag #GlobalRunningDay hashtag.

Global Running Day toolkits for events, communications and social media are available on the GlobalRunningDay.org website and runners of all ages and abilities can pledge to take part on 7 June via GlobalRunningDay.org.

The European Athletics Quality Road Race standards act as an assurance for road runners throughout Europe. They distinguish between races that respect the standards and those that haven’t sought certification or assessment. They form the foundation of Running for All, a strong recognisable brand for running activities throughout Europe.
