Conditions were against fast times. The wind was strong, rain was in the air and the track was damp. But at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich that did not stop the brilliance of Adam Gemili as he soared to gold in the 200m at the European Athletics Championships.
It is a memory which is almost two years old for the British sprinter who now has a new focus on his mind: competing again.
Twelve months on from that brilliant success, Gemili, 22, was forced to miss the IAAF World Championships last summer with injury but now the British sprinter has seen light at the end of the tunnel by earmarking his comeback for the end of this month.
He is planning to run on Sunday in the 60m at the Welsh Open Championships in Cardiff and he cannot wait.
'I am excited to be racing again after such a long time,' said Gemili, speaking to Athletics Weekly. 'I have not raced indoors since I was a junior and I will use it to work on the first part of my race to ultimately improve my 100m and 200m.'
It could be an interesting return because he might face James Dasaolu, the fellow Briton who won the 100m in Zurich in 2014.
But as Gemili said: 'I cannot wait for the 2016 season to begin and I am extremely determined to make up for the lost time of last season.'
He says he has used the break from competition to work on his mental strength but he has already proved how good he is at that.

'Simply superb' were the words of BBC commentator Steve Cram as Gemili stormed to victory at the European Athletics Championships. On a night when the elements were against him, he still won in 19.98 to take the title, equalling his personal best to confirm his place in second on the British rankings behind John Regis’ record of 19.87 from 1994.
Amsterdam and Rio are on the horizon but first stop Cardiff and the return he has been waiting for.
