  • IAAF and European Athletics hold first Technical Delegates seminar for out-of-stadium events in Monaco

The first IAAF/European Athletics Technical Delegates seminar for out-of-stadium events was held at the IAAF Headquarters in Monaco on 17-18 October. The Monaco seminar follows the success of the first seminar for Technical Delegates for in-stadium events, which was held in October 2013.

The seminar that included 19 European candidates brought together 36 participants from around the world. It was designed to provide formal training and education to help enable Technical Delegates perform their duties with increased confidence and competence. It emphasised the need for consistency in how out-of-stadia championships and high profile events should be delivered.

The four different disciplines defined by the ‘out-of-stadium’ generic term are cross country, road running, mountain running and race walking.

In addition, a number of other experts enhanced the various discussions by providing additional practical experience and expertise in their relevant areas.

“Education and training of officials is of paramount importance for smooth conduct and success of athletics events. European Athletics and the IAAF partnered to deliver a very successful seminar in Monaco last weekend. We aspire to pool our resources in a number of other domains to offer quality education and training to athletics officials. Together we are stronger,” said European Athletics CEO Christian Milz.
