Home could be an important word for Russia and its athletes in the summer ahead.
In June, in Cheboksary, the nation will host the European Athletics Team Championships Super League for the first time and by then high jumper Mariya Kuchina will have very much embraced what has been happening in Prokhladnoye.
That is the native town of Kuchina, who leaped to gold at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Prague in March.
And with repairs to the stadium and national indoor hall, she has revealed she now has great facilities for her preparations at home.
Those plans will surely include the big weekend of June 20-21 as Russia look to regain the Super League's title as European team champions.
Kuchina will begin her summer season at the team nationals in Sochi at the end of May and she said: “In the near future I have planned a training camp in Kabardinka and then we’ll come back home where, I hope, we will start to perfect my jumping technique before the start of the season.”
Perfecting her technique is something the 22-year-old has become pretty good at.
She won the European junior title in Tallinn in 2011, an impressive grounding that took her to world indoor gold in Sopot last year before just a few weeks ago; she cleared 1.97m to win the European indoor title in Prague in a jump off with Italy’s Alessia Trost.

In the five years of the European Athletics Team Championships, Russia have won three times - in Bergen in 2010, Stockholm in 2011 and Gateshead in 2013. But as Germany proved last summer in Braunschweig, being at home can be important as they were crowned champions with 372 points from Russia with 359.5.
