Latvia became the third European Athletics Member Federation after Belarus and Lithuania to complete the Focus Federation Programme (FFP) after presenting to the European Athletics Council in Budapest, Hungary from 2-4 November.

The initiative was launched in April 2017 with the aims of fostering greater communication, transparency and understanding between Member Federations and European Athletics. Two Member Federations are invited to Lausanne each year and the programme is open to all Federations who do not have any representation on the Council.

As part of the FFP, a delegation from the Latvian Athletics Association headed by President Ineta Radevica travelled to the House of European Athletics in Lausanne in mid-September for a robust programme of meetings and workshops touching on all aspects of European Athletics' operations and to carry out preparatory work ahead of the Council Meeting in Budapest.

In the final part of the programme, the Latvian Athletics Association gave a wide ranging and informative presentation to the European Athletics Council beginning with the history of the federation and some of Latvia's greatest successes on the field of play.

The presentation also gave an overview of the country's athletics facilities, detailed the internal structure, staffing and budget, outlined their main activities as well as their future aims and objectives which included the desire to stage future European Athletics championships.
