Voting for the male and female Athlete of the Year and Rising Star awards will close at 12.00 CET on Friday 5 October.
Fans are invited to cast their votes on social media which accounts for 25 percent of the overall vote. Voting opened across Facebook and Twitter on 22-23 September and fans can still submit their votes by liking or sharing the graphic of the athlete they choose on Facebook and by retweeting the corresponding graphic on Twitter.
The social media vote is one of four components of the vote with the Member Federation vote, media vote and the European Athletics Expert Panel vote also accounting for 25 percent of the vote each.
Three finalists will be announced in each category after voting closes on 5 October and the winners will be crowned at the annual Golden Tracks award ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland on 26 October.
Last year’s male and female Athlete of the Year were Germany’s Johannes Vetter and Greece’s Ekaterini Stefanidi. Norway’s Karsten Warholm and Ukraine’s Yuliya Levchenko won the Rising Star awards.
The European Athlete of the Year awards were inaugurated in 1993 to honour Europe’s outstanding athletes and the Rising Star awards came into being in 2007 to recognise exceptional emerging talents.
