As well as the 42 finals which will be decided in the Berlin Olympic Stadium, six further medal events will take place on the streets of the German capital at the Berlin 2018 European Athletics Championships including the women's 50km race walk, a new event to the European Championships programme.
The marathon and race walking courses will start in the heart of Berlin on the Budapester Strasse and the athletes are expected to enjoy excellent crowd support throughout.
The marathon course will take the athletes on a tour of the city, passing a number of Berlin’s foremost sights. The course takes the athletes past the Berlin Zoo, the Victory Column in the Tiergarten, Bellevue Castle as well as the Brandenburg Gate which the athletes will pass under eight times in total.

The start-line and finish-line are both on the European Mile at the Breitscheidplatz. The athletes will run four circuits of a 10km loop, plus an additional loop of 2.195km around the Strasse des 17. Juni on the final lap to make up the marathon distance. The course is fast and flat for the athletes, as well as being spectator-friendly.
The race walking events also take place at the Breitscheidplatz. In the 20km race walk, the participants will cover a one kilometre loop which takes them past the European Mile some 20 times and in the 50km race walkers, the participants will cover a two kilometre loop at the Kurfurstenstrasse 25 times.
