It has been a great start to the year for Polish athletes with both Ewa Swoboda and Konrad Bukowiecki having been voted European Athletes of the Month for January.

Voting for European Athlete of the Month took place through our European Athletics Twitter and Facebook pages over the past week. Athletes with the most combined Twitter 'retweets' and Facebook 'likes' were crowned the winners.

With well over 3,000 combined likes, retweets and shares, Swoboda was the winner on the women's side. She set a European junior indoor 60m record of 7.13 in Luxembourg on 30 January.

Swoboda had already made a great impression in 2015, competing in the 60m final at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Prague followed by 100m gold at the European Athletics Junior Championships in Eskilstuna.

Bukowiecki took the men's award with over 1,100 Facebook likes and retweets on Twitter. He set a new world junior indoor shot put record with the 6kg implement when he reached 22.48m in Torun on 8 January.

Similarly to Swoboda, he made the shot put final in Prague last year before winning gold in Eskilstuna. Bukowiecki was then voted as the men's European Athletics Rising Star at the Golden Tracks Awards Night in October.
