  • RunCzech looks forward to a jubilee year in 2019

The millionth RunCzech runner crossed the finish line at last year’s Volkswagen Prague Marathon and RunCzech is gearing up for another landmark year in 2019 with some notable anniversaries on the horizon.

Set up by Carlo Capalbo and a few enthusiasts shortly after the revolution, the Volkswagen Prague Marathon is preparing to celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. Starting out with handful of participants, the race now appeals to thousands of runners, all flocking to the streets of Prague for a slice of the action - and hopefully for a fast time.

Like all races on the RunCzech calendar, the Prague Marathon boasts a five-star certification from European Athletics Running for All. This guarantees participants that the race organisers have fulfilled a stringent and comprehensive list of safety and organisational checks.

And this is just the start. The 2019 season will also be a celebration of the inception of the RunCzech series which now incorporates 10 races in the Czech Republic as well as two races in Italy.

Ten years ago, the organisers extended the family of races to include the Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon - a race which soon rose in popularity, thanks in part to its wonderful course which incorporates the city’s Old Town. Runners will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of the race’s inception on 15 June.

And in-keeping with the celebratory theme, RunCzech is planning to get all running fans moving at this year’s 02 Prague Relay, which will span three days from 25-27 June.

And as part of RunCzech’s strategy to develop elite Czech and continental distance running, RunCzech will be unveiling the ‘EuroHeroes’ initiative across four of their races in 2019.

Following on from the success of the Karlovy Vary and ÄŒeské BudÄ›jovice Half Marathons last year which had European-only elite fields, the RunCzech organisers have this time extended the project to the Olomouc and Ústí nad Labem Half Marathons.

The second edition of the European Running Business Conference will also be taking place this September in Prague from 6-8 September in conjunction with the Birell Prague Grand Prix. The conference will attract leading speakers from across the globe and is a must-attend event for those in the running industry.

The European Athletics Quality Road Race standards act as an assurance for road runners throughout Europe. They distinguish between races that respect the standards and those that haven’t sought certification or assessment. They form the foundation of Running for All, a strong recognisable brand for running activities throughout Europe.
