After qualification races at the European Athletics Cross Country Permit Meetings in Pforzheim, Darmstadt and Tilburg earlier this month, Germany has named a 30-strong squad for the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Samorin, Slovakia, on Sunday 10 December.
The focus of attention is on the women’s U23 team which includes two-time U20 champion Konstanze Klosterhalfen, 2016 U23 silver medallist Anna Gehring and in-form Alina Reh, who beat her two compatriots in Damstadt on Sunday.
By coincidence, Germany has never won either an individual or team gold medal in this category in the history of the championships.
Other German individual medal chances appear to lie with Richard Ringer and Amanal Petros in the men’s senior and U23 races respectively while an impressive mixed relay squad, which contains 2017 European Athletics U23 Championships 1500m winner Marius Probst, should also challenge for a place on the podium.
