Estonia’s Maicel Uibo and Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith have been voted male and female European Athletes of the Month for April 2018.
The voting took place across our Facebook and Twitter accounts and Uibo and Asher-Smith both proved decisive winners. Uibo tallied more than 900 votes across the two platforms while Asher-Smith won more than double the number of votes than second-placer Nikola Ogrodnikova from Czech Republic.
Uibo followed up his bronze medal from the heptathlon at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham with a world-leading decathlon score and lifetime best of 8407 points in Athens, Georgia. Uibo was exceptionally strong in the vertical jumps again, clearing 2.13m in the high jump and 5.17m in the pole vault.
Uibo topped the voting on the men’s side ahead of Brits Nick Miller and Mo Farah, France’s world pole vault record-holder Renaud Lavillenie and world discus champion Andrius Gudzius from Lithuania.
