  • Voting is open for European Athlete of the Month: August 2017

The European Athlete of the Month voting for August is underway across our European Athletics Twitter and Facebook pages.

The voting closes at 12:00 CET on Monday 4 September. You can cast your vote on Twitter by retweeting the graphic of the athlete for whom you wish to vote for, or by liking or sharing the corresponding graphic on Facebook. You can also vote for more than one athlete.

The votes across Twitter and Facebook are combined in order to determine who will be named male and female European Athlete of the Month.

This month, we have nominated the 17 European athletes - nine men and eight women - who claimed individual gold medals at the World Championships in London from 4-13 August. No athlete who has served a two-year doping ban can be nominated for the award.

The European Athlete of the Month initiative was launched in January 2007 and is designed to recognise outstanding performances set by European athletes.

Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Croatia’s Sara Kolak were voted male and female European Athlete of the Month for July.

Ingebrigtsen, 16, claimed the award for the second time after winning gold medals in the 5000m and 3000m steeplechase at the European Athletics U20 Championships in Grosseto. He also broke the long-standing European U20 steeplechase record in his debut at the event, clocking 8:26.81 in Kortrijk, Belgium on 8 July.

Kolak won the Lausanne Diamond League on 6 July with a European U23 record of 68.43m to move to seventh on the world all-time javelin lists before winning the European U23 title in Bydgoszcz, Poland with a throw of 65.12m.
