Following its successful introduction at a major championship this summer at the IAAF World Championships London 2017, the women’s 50km race walk has been added to the competition programme for the Berlin 2018 European Athletics Championships.
The event will take place on the opening day of the Championships, Tuesday 7 August, and the women will start with the men in the very first event of the six-day championship.

In London, Portugal’s Ines Henriques won the inaugural world 50km race walk title in a world record 4:05:56 and she has indicated her ambition next summer is to bid for a continental title in the same event in the German capital.
