The 2019 Coaching Summit Series begins on Friday (8) with the first instalment of the European Shot Put Conference which takes place across three days in the Estonian capital of Tallinn.

The European Shot Put Conference which is jointly organised by the Estonian Athletic Federation and Global Throwing is one of four events to comprise this year’s Coaching Summit Series programme - a core part of European Athletics’ coaching strategy since and education programme its inception in 2008.

The interest in the first instalment of the European Shot Put Conference has transcended European boundaries with 111 registered coaches from 29 countries from as far afield as Japan, Australia, South Africa, Canada and the United States due to attend.

The programme features at least 15 hours of lectures as well as practical demonstrations across the three day programme. The Conference will be formally opened by 2008 Olympic discus champion Gerd Kanter and will be highlighted by presentations and practical demonstrations some globally renowned experts of the event.

Former world and European champion David Storl - one of the few remaining exponents of the glide technique - and his coach Wilko Schaa will give theoretical presentations on their planning and training methods which will be supplemented by practical demonstrations in the weights room and the training hall. Their main topic will be mastering the glide technique.

World discus champion Daniel Stahl's coach Vesteinn Hafsteinsson will also provide insight at the European Shot Put Conference. He will cover the subject of women's shot put training and he will be accompanied by Fanny Roos, who has improved her Swedish record in the event to 19.06m under Hafsteinsson's tutelage.

Another highlight will be a technical recap of the historic men’s shot put final at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha. Australian coach and former international shot putter Dale Stevenson, who coaches Tom Walsh from New Zealand, will provide some first-hand insights into this competition which will be followed by statistical and biomechanical analysis from renowned British coach Shaun Pickering.

Stevenson will also lecture separately on the rotational technique and the training methods which propelled Walsh to world indoor and outdoor titles in the shot put and then a lifetime best of 22.90m in the World Championships final in Doha.
