The VU University Amsterdam has signed a partner agreement with the organisation of the European Athletics Championships to become the official conference location for the championships.
The VU will facilitate and organise a number of important conferences and educational courses throughout the championships held in Amsterdam from 6-10 July.
“In addition to sportive competition in the Olympic Stadium and at the Museumplein, the European Championships offer a great stage for the exchange of knowledge. I am delighted that the VU will be a big part of that process,” said LOC Director Rien van Haperen.
From its Faculty of Behavioral and Human Movement Sciences, the VU will organise and facilitate an important conference, multiple lectures, educational courses and a Summer school.
“Transfer of knowledge is what we are about. It is an important part of sports as well, and we would like to facilitate this in the interest of the European Championships. This will be the biggest sporting event in the Netherlands this year and as many people as possible should be able to enjoy it”, states Jaap Winter, Chairman of the VU-Board.
During the championships, there will be a series of lectures given at the Summer school and running events will be organised for students and employees.
In cooperation with a number of scientific organisations, the Dutch Athletics Federation will also organise two conferences: Sports & Movement of Youths in relation to expressed behavior and Running & Adults. Participants in the conferences and courses will also visit the Olympic Stadium.
