  • Athletes and Digital Forums to feature at 2020 European Athletics e-Convention

The European Athletics e-Convention is less than two weeks away and the first of three days of the event that will take place from 14-16 October will see for the first time both an Athletes Forum and a Digital Forum.

The Athletes Forum will take place over four sessions on Wednesday and athletes who are interested in participating in the forum can register here until Monday. Topics, which will be particularly focused on the elite athlete, include:

- Post/Dual Career for Athletes
- The Importance of Athletes Committees (a toolkit and recommendations for athletes bodies)
- Building Your Own Brand
- COVID-19 and Athletics

The confirmed speakers for this Forum include World Athletics CEO and Olympic medallist Jon Ridgeon, former elite athletes and world medallists Periklis Iakovakis (GER) and Hannah England (GBR), who are members of the European Athletics Athletes Committee, reigning European and Olympic javelin champion Thomas Rohler (GER) as well as European Athletics Vice President and Executive Board member Cherry Alexander (GBR) and a number of other expert professionals.

The Digital Forum will take place over two sessions on Wednesday and is aimed at Member Federation staff and volunteers involved with data management, competition results and records.

This Forum has the goal of helping Member Federations increase their data management skills and capacity and will also assess individual Member Federation’s digital expertise and capabilities in a bid to provide future support in this area.

The e-Convention will be moderated and presented from a television studio in Tallinn – the original host city of the physical Convention before logistical issues relating to European travel during the COVID-19 pandemic inspired the switch to an online event – so that participants from all 51 European Athletics Member Federations can connect virtually.

European Athletics Interim President Dobromir Karamarinov will open the e-Convention from Lausanne and World Athletics President Sebastian Coe will also deliver his keynote speech to all attendees from Lausanne as well.

The European Athletics Convention is designed to support our Member Federations, offering opportunities for education, networking, planning and debriefing as well as socialising, along with the usual area or interest group meetings and calendar planning activities.

Registration details for this year’s e-Convention have been sent to Member Federations and other interested parties but for more information contact:
