Media voting is now open for the 2019 European Athletes of the Year and Rising Stars awards.

The winners will be announced at the Golden Tracks Award Ceremony which takes place in the Estonian capital of Tallinn on Saturday 26 October and the prestigious Golden Tracks trophy will be awarded to the European Athletes of the Year while smaller versions of the trophy will be presented to the Rising Stars.

Our panel has selected 10 athletes for each award based primarily on performances at major global and continental championships, including the Glasgow 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships and IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 for the senior awards and the European Athletics U23 and U20 Championships for the Rising Star awards.

Other competitions which have been considered include the European Athletics Team Championships and The Match Europe v USA as well as the 2019 world and European lists. Athletes who have previously served a doping suspension of two years or longer are ineligible for nomination.

Media voting comprises one-quarter of the voting process with Member Federation voting, European Athletics expert panel voting and social media voting each accounting for one-quarter of the vote as well.

Last year’s European Athletes of the Year were France’s world decathlon record-holder Kevin Mayer and treble European sprint champion Dina Asher-Smith from Great Britain.

Last year's European 100m hurdles champion Elvira Herman from Belarus was crowned women’s Rising Star winner while the men’s award was jointly won by Norway's 2018 European 1500m and 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Sweden's European pole vault champion Armand Duplantis.
