  • Cornelius to headline coaching convention in Formia

Luvo Manyonga hasn’t lost a competition since winning a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro last year and the crowning moment of a glorious twelve months for the South African came in London where he claimed the world long jump title in the Olympic Stadium.

Manyonga, who has surpassed the 8.60m mark four times in 2017, is considered by many as a potential successor to Mike Powell as the holder of the world long jump record. The 25-year-old is based in Pretoria at TuksAthletics where Danie Cornelius is the Head of Programme while his brother Neil is his personal coach. They have both played a pivotal role in keeping Manyonga in the sport and helping him to achieve his potential.

Danie Cornelius will share Manyonga’s remarkable story at the International Festival of Athletics Coaching in Formia, Italy on 27-29 October.

The Women in Coaching programme that will run throughout the three-day conference in Formia will be led by Lorraine Lafrenière of the Canadian Coaching Association. Lafrenière will also lead a keynote presentation on the wider coaching theme with a “20:20 Coaching Vision.”

Swiss hammer thrower Martin Bingisser will present a keynote speech on “Our Purpose is Functional Fitness” with a practical follow-up session on the topic of strength and functional fitness. Completing the line-up of keynote speakers is the IAAF’s Günter Lange who will discuss “Endurance in Crisis”

There will be a strong theme of practical workshops covering the event groups, with a new ‘coaching clinics’ follow-up where delegates have the opportunity to discuss topics of interest, coaching problematics that will be facilitated by a panel of experts – allowing the International Festival of Athletics Coaching to be more than a conference, but a place to learn, share and develop together as coaches.
