European Athletics was delighted to support the 2015 World Masters Athletics Championships that took place in Lyon, France, from 4-16 August, the 20th edition of the event.
The Championships are held every two years with over 8,000 participating athletes from 98 countries having entered to compete this year.
Competitors compete in different age categories starting from over 35 years of age.
European Athletics Vice President Jean Gracia attended the Championships and expressed the desire for the organisation to be even more involved with World Master Athletics in the future.
'These masters athletics competitions are very important to veteran athletes who wish to keep training once their careers are over. The championships represent the greatest opportunity to test themselves against other elite athletes of the same age,' said Gracia.
'Often athletes travel to the championships accompanied by family members and friends, so the atmosphere surrounding the event is extremely pleasant, and these values are shared by European Athletics.'
