Reigning world and European high jump champion Mariya Lasitskene is one of the first names to be confirmed for the 65th Janusz Kusocinski Memorial, a European Athletics Outdoor Classic Permit Meeting, in Chorzow on 16 June.

Lasitskene has competed frequently in Poland in recent seasons, winning the last two editions of the popular high jump meeting in Opole as well as clearing 2.00m to win at the Copernicus Cup in Torun last year.

It was also on Polish soil where Lasitskene won her first major senior title at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot in 2014 although she had the company of home favourite Kamila Licwinko on the highest position on the rostrum after they finished the contest with identical cards.

Licwinko, who holds the Polish high jump record with 2.02m, will also be competing in Chorzow this June. This will be one of her first major competitions of the season after missing the 2018 campaign on maternity leave.

While Lasitskene retained her world high jump title in London in 2017, Licwinko also further embellished her medal collection with bronze to go alongside her bronze medals from the 2015 European Indoor Championships and 2016 World Indoor Championships.

Some of the highlights of last year’s edition of the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial included Renaud Lavillenie clearing 5.91m in the pole vault, Andrius Gudzius winning the discus with 69.30m and Gwen Berry winning the hammer with an American record of 77.78m.
