Richard Ringer will go in search of back-to-back wins at the European 10,000m Cup in London on 6 July.

The German has been named as part of a team of seven athletes for this year’s event which will be held in conjunction with the Night of the 10,000m PBs at the Parliament Hill Athletics Track.

Ringer set his lifetime best of 27:36.52 to win last year with a sizeable negative split in the second half. After the race, Ringer gave fulsome praise to the set-up in Highgate where spectators were able to watch the races unfold from lane three.

“It’s a new format for athletics and this is what we want to see - not running alone with the audience for away. It’s a very small track but it was one of the best races of my life,” he said.

Ringer is joined on the German team by long-time internationals Amanal Petros and Philipp Pfleiger as well as European U23 cross country silver medallist Samuel Fitwi. Simon Boch and Sebastian Hendel were also given the nod.

With Alina Reh focusing on the European Athletics U23 Championships the following week, the sole entrant in the women’s race is Anna Gehring.
