Jorge Urena and Ana Peleteiro have been voted men's and women's European Athletes of the Month for March 2019, making it a Spanish double in this month's voting.

Voting opened across European Athletics' Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on Tuesday and Urena emerged as the clear-cut winner in the men's voting, accruing a total of 6794 votes combined across the three accounts ahead of last month's winner Jakob Ingebrigtsen (5867 votes) and January's winner Karsten Warholm (3288 votes).

Urena won one of Spain's three gold medals at the Glasgow 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships where he prevailed in the heptathlon with a world-leading total of 6218 points to defeat Great Britain's Tim Duckworth (6156 points) and neutral athlete Ilya Shkurenyov (6145 points).

The outcome on the women's side was decidedly closer with Peleteiro claiming 3040 votes ahead of European indoor pentathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson (2910 votes) and European indoor long jump champion Ivana Spanovic (2854 votes).
