  • Voting is open for European Athlete of the Month: May 2018

The European Athlete of the Month voting for May is underway across our Twitter and Facebook pages.

The voting closes at 12:00 CET on Friday 8 June. You can cast your vote on Twitter by retweeting the graphic of the athlete for whom you wish to vote for or by liking or sharing the corresponding graphic on Facebook. You can also vote for more than one athlete.

Please note that only likes and retweets cast on the original image will be counted. Likes and retweets cast on any quoted or shared image will not be counted.

The votes across Twitter and Facebook are combined in order to decide who will be named male and female European Athlete of the Month.

Five male and five female athletes are nominated purely based on their performances in the previous month. However, no athlete who has served a two-year doping ban can be nominated for the award.

The European Athlete of the Month initiative was launched in January 2007 and is designed to recognise outstanding performances set by European athletes.

Last month’s male and female Athletes of the Month were Estonia’s Maicel Uibo and Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith. Uibo, who won a bronze medal in the heptathlon at the IAAF World Indoor Championships, opened his outdoor campaign with a world-leading total of 8407 points in Athens, Georgia.

Asher-Smith won a bronze medal in a highly competitive 200m final at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. Asher-Smith clocked 22.29, edging out double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson for the bronze medal. She also won gold in the 4x100m relay for England.
