Norway’s Karsten Warholm and Germany’s Pamela Dutkiewicz have been voted Athletes of the Month for January 2019.
The voting took place on social media across European Athletics’ Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts over the last three days and Warholm emerged a decisive winner in the men’s voting with 3266 votes combined.
Warholm was nominated after opening his season with victory at the Karsten Warholm International in Ulsteinvik where he set a Norwegian indoor record and world-leading time of 45.56 to beat Pavel Maslak in the 400m.

Warholm was nominated alongside Spaniards Adel Mechaal and Jorge Urena, Czech Republic’s Tomas Stanek and Poland’s European indoor pole vault champion Piotr Lisek.
On the women’s side, only five votes separated Germany’s Pamela Dutkiewicz and Authorised Neutral Athlete Mariya Lasitskene from Russia.
Dutkiewicz, who opened her season with a 7.91 clocking in Dortmund to defeat European outdoor champion Elvira Herman, tallied 2371 votes across the three platforms ahead of Lasitskene (2366) and Laura Muir (1705).
