Four-time European Athletics Championships gold medallist Christophe Lemaitre has returned to training this week, reports ledauphine.com.
Lemaitre injured himself during the 100m final at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, which kept him from taking part in the 200m race.
The 23 year-old will start a gentle workout before joining the rest of the French national sprint group, coached by Pierre Carraz, in November.
He is considering training in Miami in late November as well as training in Palma de Mallorca through the month of December to avoid the cold winter.
Lemaitre’s presence for this winter’s indoor events remains uncertain.
His coach Pierre Carraz said it was still “too soon to take any decisions.”
Pascal Martinot-Lagarde, the fastest European 110m hurdler in 2013 with a time of 13.12, is also back to training after recovering from a back injury.
The same injury ruined his hopes at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow.
He was not able to run at full speed and was eliminated in the heats.
He is now looking to the indoor season and the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, where he will be looking to improve his last year’s bronze medal performance.
Martinot-Lagarde, 22, expressed his frustrations to l’equipe.fr: “I have been really unlucky over the past few years, missing out of the Olympic Games by one-hundredth of a second and also injuring my back a week before the IAAF World Championships in Moscow.
“I feel like I have been competing at the highest level for the past two years, but have failed to prove it at the most significant events.'
Both athletes are making the European Athletics Championships in Zurich in 2014 their main focus , with a lot to prove after what can be considered disappointing seasons for both French athletes.
