Spiegelburg, 27, is the German pole vault record holder and had she been in Göteborg it is likely she would have been among the medals at last month's European Athletics Indoor Championships.
But the focus now turns to the European Athletics Team Championships in Gateshead in June and then the World Championships in Moscow in August.
Her fourth place at last year's Olympic Games in London, where she cleared 4.65m and missed out on bronze by five centimetres, was further evidence of the status of a woman who has won three silvers at the European Athletics Championships - one outdoors in Barcelona in 2010 and two indoors, in Torino in 2009 and Paris in 2011.
Spiegelburg has been concentrating on her studies Health Economics studies and she is in a good position. Her performances in 2012 were among the best of her career and it was in Monaco in July where she jumped 4.82m to land the German record.
She was crowned the Diamond League pole vault champion and has already qualified for Moscow which removes that pressure as slowly steps up her training.
She will open her season at the Diamond League in Shanghai on May 18 and it could be a good summer for Germany's women athletes.
Long jumper Sosthene Moguenara, who has a personal best of 6.88m, is back in full training after taking time off, while Lena Markus could be one of the main names to watch out for at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Tampere in July.
