It was a really hard race but I have been training a lot, so for me, it was a matter of focusing on my training - it was easy. It was a really good field here, and I was expecting it so I prepared myself by training really hard. My focus wwas to take gold, tha's why I've been training in altitude prior to coming here - I took gold, so I'm really happy. I knew the other athletes would try to follow me, but I've been working hard on my hill workout, so I'm pleased with the result.

I'm really pleased because this was a really tough race, exhausting even, but I tried to be cautious and run from the back to avoid using too much energy, otherwise it would be difficult to recover. This is my best result in Cross Country, so far. All I wanted was to enjoy the race, and feel the support from the crowd that came out here today - all the Portuguese who came out here today played a vital part in my performance in the last lap. Don't think I could have done any better today. I focused on mistakes from the past and decided not to go ahead with other athletes who are faster than me - that's not how it should be. It's important to focus on what we did in training, and replicate it here. The goal was to have a very strong last lap, I knew I could take over many athletes then, and that's what I did here today.
